The IoA at the Essence 2012

The Essence Show 2012 opens June 26, 2012 at 7:00 pm, Künstlerhaus, Karlsplatz 5, 1010 Vienna
Duration: June 27 - July 15 2012
The exhibition design by Hani Rashid, since one year head of the Studio Rashid at the IoA, was conceived as a field matrix that displays and proliferates, information, models and materials from the Institutes architecture departments. The resulting terrain is a landscape of varying visions for the future of architecture. Over 60 works of students from the three design studios Zaha Hadid, Greg Lynn, Hani Rashid and the Urban Strategies Postgraduate Program were 'spawned' across the field of 600 podiums and as as these contemporary ideas and works were all either influenced or directly managed manufactured and represented through computing and digital means, the installation presents itself as an antidote and in someways as a quasi-analog environment while also being a datascape. The works are purposely folded, juxtaposed and intersected so as to heighten both their ideological affiliations and disparities. The 144 lighting points (sponsored by Zumtobel), as well as video accompaniment were thought of also as data sent into the space to provide at once atmosphere as well as didactic information and surplus.
